Golden temple was established by his holiness Pema Norbu Rinpoche in 1963. As the monastery is a place of prayer and medication , you have to maintain silence . This Tibetan settlement at Baylkuppe is the the second largest Tibetan settlement outside Tibet. There are nearly 7,000 monks and students at the Tibetan monastery.
Statues : The statue of Lord Buddha , Guru Padamasambhava and Buddha Amitayus is main attraction. The statue of Lord Buddha is 60 feet in height ( from the base ) whereas the height of other two statue are 58 feet. Statue are made of copper , plated with gold.
Wall Painting : The painting on both sides of the three statues depict the 25 disciples of Guru Padamsambhava who attained high realizations through the practise of Dzogchen teachings.
The murals on the first floor show the various deities of the three roots Lama, Yidan and Dakini.
Wall painting on both side of the second floor represent the eleven Throne holders of the Palyul tradition and the great scholars and masters of Nyingma tradition.
Third floor shows the life story of Buddha and twelve teachers of Dzogchen.
Best time Golden Temple and Timings
The best time to visit the temple is during the festive season. Various masked dances in their colourful attires can be seen performing their traditional dances at the main courtyard during festival. During this time, the main courtyard turns into an open stage for masked dancers and performers to present lively performances amid enthralling traditional music. The Tibetan New year (Losar) which usually occurs in the month of February or March is a best time to plan your visit.

Apart from the calm and peaceful surroundings there are shopping centres near the temples where one can shop for traditional Tibetan items like costumes, statues, carpets, jewellery etc.
