Nagarhole National Park

Nagarhole National Park  : At a distance of  88 km from Mysore, 88 km from Madikeri and 218 km from Bangalore, Nagarhole National Park is one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in South India. Also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park, it is spread across Mysore and Kodagu districts in Karnataka.

This national park gets its name from two Kannada words Naga means snake and Hole means stream. Many serpentine streams flow through the rich tropical forests of the park.

The important animals in Nagarhole National Park are tiger, leopard, wild dog, sloth bear, the hyena, spotted deer, sambar, barking deer, four-horned antelope, gaur, wild boar and elephant. Among reptiles, the marsh crocodile, monitor lizard, rock python and several other species are represented. Other mammals includes the common langur, bonnet macaque, jungle cat, slender loris, leopard-cat, civet cat, mongoose, common otter, giant flying squirrel, giant squirrel, porcupine, jackal, mouse-deer, hare and pangolin.

 Safaris are organised in the forest department vans during morning and evening. The reason time to visit Nagarhole National Park is Nov-May, especially Apr-May.

Safari Timings:
Morning 6.30 a.m to 8.30 a.m
Evening 3.30 p.m to 5.30 p.m

Two forest department buses are used for safari each bus capicity is 30. Safari ride is for one hour so bus goes twice in both the timing. Total 240 tourist can go for safari ride in a day.


Safari Charges:
Indian Nationals - Rs. 300/- per person
Foreign Nationals Rs.1100/- per person

To get the safari ticket one should reach there at least one hour early to timing given above
Open zipsy safari is also available which is organised by jungle lodge and resort limited.
